So Long Sweet California

I leave California at 9:25 tonight and am unclear when I will return. I will return though. I’ve never been in love before like I am with California.

Cruising down the coastline in the evening

the sun setting on the ocean on my right,

there's no going home tonight

just following the tail lights

to some city or a border or a party i could crash

tell my friends to come, drink to being young

because experience is a burden you regret

if it hasn't happened yet.

The lanes grow fewer, exits come faster into view,

but i hug the passing lane until i crash.

The stars grow brighter as my head gets lighter

from a joint i sparked to make the feeling last.

And though the girl I'm with may not be my last

at least the job I work will never be my death.

I'm happy knowing with every passing breath

I grow closer to a change.

I just have to switch lanes.

I just have to change.
